SPECIAL EVENTS

The school year is full of joyful special events. Please like and view our IDEAL School Facebook page to see photos and videos of these events from the past school year. These special events include activities such as:

OFF CAMPUS LEARNING

As the students gain confidence and experience and move into middle school, they have the opportunity to have more advanced off campus experiences.
This includes trips like a weeklong adventure in Costa Rica working with expert scientists at a Sea Turtle Research Center or an 8-day experience at the Island School and Marine Research Center in Cape Eleuthera, Bahamas. These trips include teachers, guides and students and every day is like a “National Geographic Special”, full of incredible activities like: capturing, tagging and releasing stingrays and sharks! These field trips are unbelievable, full of rich learning experiences that the students treasure forever.
Field Trips are an integral part of the enriched program at IDEAL School. These wonderful experiences begin with local trips in Kindergarten through Grade 2. Overnight field trip experiences begin in Grade 3, with a 3 day trip to the oldest city in the USA, St. Augustine. This trip which includes teachers, guides, parents and students brings the third grade social studies curriculum to life. Grades 4 and 5 head to the Tampa area for 3 or 4 days to experience the spectacular zoo, the science museum (MOSI) and Busch Gardens.

SKYPE SPEAKER EXPERIENCES

Skyping using IDEAL School’s Advanced Panaboard technology is an amazing experience that brings such a wide variety of expertise into the classroom.
Examples of Skype Experiences at IDEAL School for Advanced Learning include Molly the Fire Safety Dog at the Keep Kids Fire Safe Foundation, the USS Battleship Missouri Memorial Association at Pearl Harbor, the Digital Ocean Explorers Research Team at Timor Leste, Captain Barrington Irving in the Flying Classroom and Cameron Young at the Snake Conservatory.
Skype Expert Speaker Experiences add a further dimension to our program. These experiences are used to compliment the curriculum and give the students the opportunity to get a more complete understanding of what it is like in the “working world” they will be entering in the not-to-distant future. These speakers typically include: authors, scientists, athletes, inventors, business people, attorneys, engineers, actors, politicians, etc.

EXPERT SPEAKER EXPERIENCES

As part of the “Heart to Heart” character and virtues program at IDEAL, expert speakers who have faced or are facing enormous life challenges also present to the students.
Examples include: cancer survivors, people with ALS, Holocaust survivors, and those that have experienced huge tragedies due to driving under the influence, etc.

LEARNING LAB

IDEAL’s commitment to address individual learning needs is evident in our teaching. We recognize that all children learn in different ways, and our goal is to determine the strengths of each child to encourage success.
We strive to do this at an early age, so that academic needs can be effectively met at each stage of development. It is clear that students learn best when they feel safe, confident, and understood. The Director of the Learning Lab is a resource for teachers and parents to support students with one-to-one or small group assistance.
Having our Learning Lab in-house, we are easily able to keep the lines of communication open with teachers and parents to ensure the student’s needs are being met. The Learning Lab is devoted to serving students’ needs and does so through the use of diagnostic testing, curriculum development, research and professional development. Provided services include assistance with reading comprehension and writing, math and test taking strategies, as well as tutoring. The Learning Lab teacher also provides support with organizational skills and study strategies. During Learning Lab visits, there are also many enrichment opportunities for students in all areas of study.
